The World in Black and White I

2021, Sumi ink on air-dry clay, 6.3 x 9.1 x 0.9” each.

*Piece for 2022 YoungArts Finalist (Visual Arts)

As the United States convulsed with protests and activism in response to systemic racism, we were offered a new view of social justice and civic engagement. For this collection, I used black ink on three-dimensional clay slabs, rendering various incidents in monochromatic tonal schemes. Panels contain slogans, such as "Black Lives Matter" and "Stop Asian Hate" used in protests, as well as scenes of police brutality.  There is nothing black-and-white about these matters. Through this series, I hope to challenge destructive thinking in society.
