Beyond the Mundane

2021, pastel on paper, 24 x 18”.

This is the artists’ sink that I use to clean my brushes every afternoon depicted from a distorted, bird’s eye view producing a quotidian scene from an unusual position. From this viewpoint, the sink, as the main subject of the environment, becomes small.  It is the varied texture and shades of tiles as well as the contrasting diagonal thrusts in space that attract attention. With this work, I learned to look at a mundane setting from a different perspective, allowing myself to pay attention to aspects I hadn’t noticed before.
